Want to succeed? Start Here....

Do you want to succeed?

Go back to the beginning. Remember the time, when you had your 1st success. No, I am not talking about you getting conceived-that was not your success. But can you remember the 1st prize you’ve ever won? The sheer joy of beating somebody at something . Must have been school, maybe college .

But let’s take this back to professional. Let's go back in time when professionally, you were 1st chosen for some particular task by a faculty. It felt good-didn’t it? You prepared for days- prepared hard-if I remember correctly. That is what it’s all about!

As the success went piling on, somewhere the buzz went out of the window- didn’t it? You didn’t feel that connected to each victory. Most victories were easy. Common' you’re good! They fell in your lap ! You just walked into a room, you knew what to do, said a few words, got the right people to move and it happened- Yes ! But why did it stop tasting so sweet? Was it truly because it was that easy? No, because you did not care enough !

I remember when the 1st time I was asked to stand at the front desk of a 5 star hotel when in training. I created for myself a checklist. And this is before the day I learned what the processes were !

The checklist stipulated very clearly what all I had to check before I walked out of my dorm room to go to the hotel. The uniform, name tag, pen, pad. Any particular information that I wanted to learn,
and anything that I was not supposed to carry. Things like no bracelets.  I even wrote about socks and polished shoes!

Recently I walked into a meeting, and did not have visiting cards on me. On so many occassions, I’ve not had a pen to write with- yep! I take out my smart phone and type few words into it and make people feel as if I don’t need a pen! But honestly, sometimes you do need a pen! And I don’t carry it!

What am I getting at? What I am getting at this- if you look back to the beginning and look at everything that made you what you’re today, look back at what made you succeed then, what do you see?

Can you see it?

Can you see how diligent you were? Diligence works!
You did not know everything? So you stuck with it, you learned new ways to do it, you asked a lot of people, you read some books, asked some more people. But you found a way to do it. Deligence worked.

Creativity worked! Because you were young, you assumed that there were no right ways to do it? So you found newer ways to do things. Some were shortcuts, some of them were probably smartass ways of getting things done and rather go and see whatever it was- creativity worked!

Networking worked- didn’t it? You were young, you wanted to make friends with everybody, you wanted to go out and meet people, shake hands, give your visiting cards, be in touch with people.  Networking worked!

Finding good in others worked! Constantly, you found good in others. Today you are cynical! But back
then even if you did not eventually find everybody nice, you at least did not start with that presumption.

Respect worked, hard work worked, integrity, a sheer passion for knowledge worked! But what worked most was the Spirit to Assist.

You actually spent time making sure that people who came to you for help, were helped.

What else worked? Saying yes worked! How many times did you say a “No” to your boss in your 1st job? Not many. Now, ahhh...you can really get away with No’s-can’t you? Saying- “yes” worked! It’s all about that.

It's all about keeping yourself green. At the same time using your experience and maturity to succeed in situations what others can’t. But you’re not going to be able to fight somebody new who is rearing to go! Somebody new who is actually there and willing to do all those things that you did some years back to get where you are!

You’re not going to go very far without doing those things. Go back to the time, when you felt you accomplished your 1st major achievement.

If you want to recreate that kind of happiness- you’ll have to put in the same amount of
effort.

Happy successing!
